Travel permits dating to the Civil War allowing Denis O’Sullivan of Passage West to travel. Mr O’Sullivan owned a grocery shop in Strand Street. He was a member of the Irish National Foresters Benefit Society, and the travel permits had been stuck into his membership booklet. The permits were signed by Major General Emmet Dalton, who had commanded the Free State men who landed at Passage West in August 2022 to take control of Cork city from the Anti-Treaty IRA.
The collection also includes a photo of Mr O’Sullivan wearing his Foresters uniform.
