Bayonet found on Hop Island between Passage West and Rochestown. This is a 1907 pattern bayonet and would originally have been fitted to a SMLE (Short Magazine Lee Enfield) rifle. Lee Enfields were widely used by the IRA during the War of Independence and by both sides in the Civil War.
